Chiropractic Adjustments: Regaining Function!

What was once called “miracles,” is now known as chiropractic adjustments that help the body to work  and function correctly, without pain! According to Kleinpell, Fletcher, and Jennings (2015), the aging population will reach 35,000,000 in 2030. A key component to the health of this aging population will be the ability to function, move and perform activities, possibly ranging from those required of  professional athletes to those of the elderly, such as simply walking or writing.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Chiropractic Adjustments Boise ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Dr Of Chiropractic Boise ID for the Whole Family Care.

According to Haavik and Murphy (2012), “There is growing body of research on the effects of spinal manipulation (chiropractic spinal adjustments) on sensory processing, motor output, functional performance and sensorimotor integration…how an initial episode(s) of back or neck pain may lead to ongoing changes in input from the spine which over time lead to altered sensorimotor integration of input from the spine and limbs” (p. 768). What this means is that chiropractic adjustments to the spinal column change how the brain gets its information, how it processes that information and then how it sends it back to the different regions of the body so that we can function and move better. In addition, research has given strong evidence that these brain changes decreases pain as a result of the chiropractic adjustments, affecting one or all limbs.

Unfortunately, injuries play a significant role in an individual’s ability to function, which can be lost fairly quickly. Research suggests that the brain loses correct information from the limbs. Chiropractic adjustments to the spinal column can help regain that function. When unaffected areas get treated, the brain makes adaptive changes and resolves pain in multiple areas.

Our daily activities are dependent on the appropriate interaction between the sensory and motor systems, allowing us to engage with our environment. This uninhibited interaction allows us to reach for and grasp objects, detect and turn towards an auditory stimuli, or respond to motion around us in order to maintain postural stability and balance. Chiropractic adjustments are one of the safest treatments currently available in healthcare. The potential for benefits from treatment far outweigh any risk, if any.

If you want to experience life to the fullest, you need to be able to move and function without pain. Call McKim Chiropractic today for more information about the benefits of chiropractic adjustments and to schedule an appointment. Our licensed and certified staff is committed to helping the residents of Boise, ID, Nampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID live life to the fullest!

Post-Chiropractic Treatment

Low back pain is one of the most common maladies among the general population.  The rate of occurrence was reported by Ghaffari, Alipour, Farshad, Yensen, and Vingard (2006) to be between 15% and 45% yearly.  According to Hoy et. al. (2014), out of 291 conditions studied in the Global Burden of Disease 2010 Study, low back pain ranked highest in terms of disability, and sixth in terms of overall burden.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Chiropractic Treatment Boise ID vital to the injured athlete with Chiropractic Therapy Boise ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

A 2013 study by Leemann, Peterson, Schmid, Anklin, and Humphreys concluded that a large percentage of acute chronic lumbar disc herniation patients treated with high-velocity, low-amplitude chiropractic treatment (spinal manipulation/adjustments) reported continued improvement at the one-year mark with no serious adverse effects.  The study’s purpose was to evaluate patients with low back pain and leg pain that was the result of a herniated lumbar disc which had been confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging.

The patients’ reported outcomes of change and pain levels were collected at various times during a one-year period.  The results showed significant improvement at each evaulation.  At the one-year point, 88% were much better.  According to the authors, “The results in this current study are encouraging when considering that it is chronic low back pain patients who carry the economic burden with greater use of prescription medications and increased use of other health care resources.” (Leemann et al., 2013, p. 161).

There are many treatment options available that fall into one of two categories, surgical or conservative care.  Chiropractic treatment (i.e., spinal manipulation/adjustment) is one of the most widely used conservative treatment options with doctors of chiropractic performing the majority of them.

Prenatal Chiropractic Benefits!

If you are a mother-to-be, you know that pregnancy has a significant impact on your health. A contributing factor to whether you are healthy or not stems from the alignment of your spine. Regular prenatal chiropractic care appeals to many women who have a goal of better health—not only for themselves, but also for their unborn baby!

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Prenatal Chiropractic Boise ID vital to the injured athlete with Chiropractor Services Boise ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes many changes, including:

  • Protruding abdomen, adding stress to the lower back
  • Pelvic changes
  • Postural adaptations, such as increased back curve

There are four stages in which having an optimally working nervous system can help both mother and child:

  1. Pre-Conception – Regular chiropractic care before pregnancy prepares a woman’s body to be as strong, balanced and ready as possible to carry her pregnancy to full term. It is the safest answer to ensuring a healthy pregnancy.
  2. During Pregnancy -- Changes are a normal course of pregnancy, but these changes can cause alterations in spinal alignment and nerve function. When nerve function is altered, the organs and tissues that the nerves go to are also altered. Low back pain is a possible sign of nerve
interference in the nerves leading to the abdomen, uterus and pelvic muscles.
  3. Labor and Delivery – A baby’s head will have difficulty fitting through a pelvis that is altered.  By following a course of prenatal chiropractic care, it allows for the proper spinal and pelvis alignment that will improve the labor and delivery experience.
  4. Post-Partum – Make sure that the trauma of labor and delivery has not caused alternation in your spinal alignment and nerve function. Prevent chronic low back pain!

Chiropractic Wellness: Massage Therapy

The term “chiropractic wellness” is a popular term in today’s world. Because of its holistic healing properties, massage therapy is used as just one of the avenues of achieving chiropractic wellness. Tight and tense muscles can cause misalignment in the spine, which can lead to a wide range of other issues. Massage is the process during which a licensed massage therapist will knead and stretch muscles and other soft tissue, releasing the toxins that build up in the muscles.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Chiropractic Wellness Boise ID vital to the injured athlete with Doctor Of Chiropractic Boise ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

A massage therapist will ask you questions about your health and possible symptoms you are having as well as about past injuries and problems you may have had. This will help them determine the areas that need the most care and attention.

Massage therapy is one of the safest and most non-invasive methods to help you heal and relax. It is perfect for patients with chronic conditions, and may be beneficial in the long term.  Many different techniques may be used to relieve muscle tension. A professional and certified massage therapist can determine the best techniques to help you heal as quickly and safely as possible.

The massage therapist will apply concentrated pressure to trigger points that are often painful and can sometimes lead to referred pain in other parts of the body. Application of sufficient pressure to these areas for a long enough period of time (usually 45-60 seconds) can allow these tight places in the muscles to relax with subsequent improvement in pain and muscle tightness. Stretching techniques and exercises at home can often help to normalize muscle anatomy and its attachment to bones. Used in conjunction with chiropractic treatment, massage therapy can allow maximum benefit from the adjustments and often help prevent recurrence of symptoms.

The final tip to chiropractic wellness: Don’t let tension and stress get you down! Massage therapy can offer relief before the muscles misalign your spine or cause injury to another part of your body, and allow the natural healing properties of the body do their work of restoration.

Come in for a free chiropractic consultation and our doctor of chiropractic will determine if massage therapy is right for you. Contact McKim Chiropractic by calling today or go to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information and to schedule a consultation and to

Chiropractor Offers Healthy Back-to-School Tips!

It's back-to-school time, and that means kids running, jumping, and falling in the playground, books, back packs, and school sports. The activity can be great for you and the kids, but heavy back packs and bad posture can hurt your kids and their backs.   Here are five tips from a chiropractor that will help keep your family strong and healthy:

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Chiropractors Boise ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Family Chiropractic Boise ID for the Whole Family Care.
  1. A good back pack! A good pack is light, snug and comfortable to wear.  Make sure it isn’t too big for a small child. It should be made of vinyl or canvas, with two wide padded shoulder straps and a waist strap.  Adjust the straps so that the pack is snug against the back.  Make sure the heaviest objects are close to the body and bumpy, odd-shaped objects are placed on the outside, away from the back.
  2. In the dorm!  If you are moving your kids into their dorm room, be sure to label the boxes so that you know what is inside and how heavy they will be. Tape the boxes so that they are sturdy and the contents won’t shift while being handled.  Follow the rules for proper lifting with balanced footing and a good grip.  Face forward when lifting, keeping the object as close to your body as possible, and bending from the hips and knees.
  3. Hitting the books! Use a book stand so that your book is at eye level when studying or reading. This will reduce the amount of strain on your neck and shoulders from having your book lay flat. It also gives you extra desk space!
  4. School sports! Remember that your body may not have done that particular sport in awhile and will need extra time to warm up--a minimum of 10-15 minutes. The warm up should involve simple movements that “simulate” your sport and get the heart rate up. Remember to stretch after the game.
  5. Sitting in class! Practice good posture, sitting with your shoulders back, chin tucked in and a gentle "C curve" in your low back. Don't arch your lower back or slump forward. Your ears, shoulders and hips should be in a straight line. Between classes stand up, walk around and stretch. This will help reduce the strain on the neck, shoulders and low back, and also help keep you attentive in class!
